This appeared in the 1912 History of Porter County, Indiana: "PERRY WALLACE BENEDICT. For almost half a century has Mr. Benedict known Porter county as a resident, and for many fruitful years has been an intelligent and progressive citizen and industrious worker here. His homestead in Porter township, acquired entirely through the industry and thrift of himself and his good wife, is evidence that the years have not been wasted…. "Mr. Benedict was too young to remember when [his] family moved out to Illinois, and Porter county has been his home practically throughout the formative and active period of his life. For a few years he was given the privilege of the common schools in this county, but most of his education has been obtained outside the walls of a schoolhouse. Reared on a farm and choosing agriculture for his life pursuits, he began earning wages when he was only thirteen years old, being paid fifty cents a day for planting corn with a hoe. Hard work has been an intimate part of his experience. For several years he worked during the summer on farms in Center township for twelve dollars a month, and it was with the results of such work that he got his start in life…"

Perry's obituary: "Perry W. Benedict for more than half a century a resident of Porter county, well known both in the city and rural community, died at his home 901 E. Jefferson street this morning at 4:45 o'clock following an illness of three years duration. A year ago he submitted to an operation from which he never fully recovered. Diabetes was attributed as the cause of death. "Mr. Benedict, son of Jacob and Lovilla Benedict was born in the State of Ohio on June 23, 1857. When a small boy his parents migrated to Porter county settling in Porter township where Mr. Benedict follwed the occupation of farming until 1915 when he moved to Valparaiso. For a number of years he was employed at the McGill manufacturing company on W. Indiana avenue. "On January 13, 1886 he was united in marriage to Alvaretta Thatcher. "Surviving are the widow, one son, Myron Benedict, residing on the old [?homestead - unreadable in copy] and one daughter Mrs. Marie Padock of Huntington, Indiana. Two brothers also mourn their loss, Albert Benedict, of Iowa and Stephen Benedict of Unionville, Ohio. "Mr. Benedict was a member of the Christian church, a man who believed in ideals in his home life, his years richly abounded in faithful stewardship of every trust that [?came to heart]. He was also affiliated with the Masonic lodge. "Burial arrangements will be announced in Friday's paper."
