GWENDOLYN BURTON CALDWELL Gwendolyn Burton Caldwell, wife of the late, Dr. Harmon W. Caldwell passed away June 18, 2005.
She was born in Monetta, South Carolina, graduated from Lander College and then received her master's degree at UNC in Chapel Hill.
She was a member of the faculty of the University of Georgia where she married the then President of the University of Georgia, Dr. Caldwell.
She was active in numerous civic and religious organizations including serving as a Director of the Lord's Day Alliance, being a Past President and Chaplain of the South Carolina Club, Past President of the DAR, Past President of the DAC, Past President of the Georgia Tech Book Club, and Past President of the Ladies Garden Club of Georgia, where she was responsible for establishing a time capsule at the University of Georgia.
She was a member of the Ross Family Society, the Bruce Family Society, and was responsible for having the Mt. Carmel Community listed on the National Register of Historical Places.
She is survived by son, Harmon W. Caldwell, Jr. daughter, Edea M. Caldwell; grandchildren, Harmon W. Caldwell, III, Kathleen Caldwell, Rebecca Caldwell Chitty, Kimberly Burton Caldwell and Reagan Alexander O'Donnell Caldwell.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 22 at 11 AM at Spring Hill; interment will follow at the Caldwell-Burton Family Cemetery in Mt. Carmel, Georgia at 3:30 PM.
