George F. McGinnis, 75, of Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2008.

He was born Oct. 14, 1932, in Indianapolis to Horace and Flossie McGinnis.

Mr. McGinnis served eight years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired after 30 years from Western Electric.

He was a member of Indian Creek Christian Church, the American Horseshoe Pitching Association, Moose Lodge No. 17, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a lifelong member of the American Bowling Congress.

He also won numerous awards in bowling including a 300 game and an 800 series. George also won the state championship twice in horseshoes.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Mary Beth; three children, Cindy (Kurt) Hight, Gorgann (Jim) Mackell and Gary (Sue) McGinnis; two stepchildren, Michael (Pam) Schmidt and Mickie (John) Dillard; five sisters, Betty (Art) Nolting, Irene Lacy, Donna (Harold) Webb, Lynne (Paul) Thompson and Cheri (Jim) Meeks; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 24 years, Maxine McGinnis; and two brothers, Cecil McGinnis and Lloyd McGinnis.

He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
