MRS. BARKES, 75, TAKEN BY DEATH
Funeral Rites to Be Conducted in City Saturday Afternoon.
Mrs. Lydia Barkes, 75, widow of Isaac N. Barkes, died unexpectedly this morning at Madison.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Barkes and Albright funeral home. Burial will be in Garland Brook cemetery. The casket will be open from Friday morning until time of the services.
Mrs. Barkes was born in Brown county an lived there until 15 years ago when she moved to East Columbus.
She was a member of Grand View United Brethren church and was active in the church as long as her health permitted.
She is survived by eight children of her own and nine step-children. The children are Mrs. Linder Sprague, John W. Barkheimer, Mrs. Cecil Dudley, Valentine Barkheimer of Columbus and C. E. Barkheimer of Stephens, Ark., children by a former marriage; Lowell, Homer and Omer Barkes of Columbus. The step-children are Mrs. Orville Conner, Mrs. Irven King, Mrs. Irwin Hart, Mrs. Wesley Ping, Mrs. Ella Quillen, Mrs. John Eddy and Harley Barkes of Columbus, and Ray and Ed Barkes of Yakima, Wash. Twenty grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Emma Waltz, and two brothers, Charles and James Settle, also survive.
Her first husband, Philip Barkheimer, died in February, 1897, and Mr. Barkes died in July, 1936. One step-daughter, Mrs. Corman Boyle, died in 1934.
