Delores J. Puthuff, formerly of Midwest City, OK, passed away Wednesday, Juen 11, 2008, at Colonial Lodge Nursing Home in McAlester, OK at the age of 89. Delores was born December 8, 1918, in New Market, Iowa to Vesta and Alva Jones. At a very young age, her parents relocated to Erick, OK, so her father could work in the coal mines. She graduated from Erick High School in 1936 and went on to graduate from Phillips University in Enid, OK in 1940. She cherished her lifelong friendships with her fellow sorority sisters until the day of her passing. She married the late Charlie Brown Puthuff, her High School sweetheart on March 28, 1943. After Charlie's retirement from the Civilian Division with the United States Air Force, they traveled the world over so her happy memories of their adventures carried her through since his passing in 1999. Delores taught second grade in Erick, OK Denver, CO and Midwest City, OK Public Schools. She loved children and teaching and would read to her nephews and nieces at any opportunity. She is remembered as a lady with style and grace and her love of animals, especially birds and cats. Until her broken hip in December 2006, she was an active member of The Redbud Garden Club and Azalea Garden Club, not to mention her involvement in local dinner and dance clubs. She and her late husband were both past members on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Christian Retirement Community in Edmond, OK and once active members of the First Christian Church in Midwest City, OK. She is survived by Charlie's sister, Meletta A. Abbott of San Diego, CA numerous nieces and nephews including Karla and Larry Boggs of Red Oak, OK longtime friends Robert and Anita Harward of Oklahoma City, OK and God-daughter, Heather Harward of Austin, TX.
