Sarah was the daughter of Tandy & Elizabeth Creech Kidd. When the Civil War broke out, her father enlisted in the Union Army and served as a Pvt. in Co. E, 14th Ky. Vol. Cav. He survived the war, but passed away around the time of Sarah's birth.

Her mother married Benjamin Franklin Lee on December 8, 1868 in Jackson County. In addition to raising his own children, Mr. Lee helped in the raising of his step-children.

Sarah married James Marcum, the son of Richard & Sarah Tackett Marcum, on January 4, 1883 in Jackson County. They were the parents of Richard and Lucy Belle Marcum. The couple's marriage ended in divorce.

She married Ira S. Spurlin on May 2, 1910 in Jackson County, Kentucky. He was the son of Daniel & Mary Crouse Spurlin and the widower of Amanda Holloway Spurlin. Ira purchased a house and acreage in Stoddard County, Missouri and, following their marriage, the couple moved to their new farm. They were accompanied by Sarah's daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. Mr. Spurlin passed away in 1914.

She married Henry Franklin Sanders on October 5, 1917, in Butler County, Missouri. Mr. Sanders was a widower and Sarah assisted him in the raising of his younger children.

When Sarah Kidd Sanders passed away, her death was mourned by all who knew her, for she treated everyone with the same warmth, irregardless of kinship.
