BEECHER.--Honorable Sylvester Beecher died at his residence in Canastota, Madison County, New York, August 19, of chronic diarrhea. He was a native of Southington, (now Wolcott), New Haven County, Connecticut, but removed to this State in 1808, when he purchased a large tract of land at Oak Hill, in the town of Lenox, where he lived 32 years; but of late has resided in Canastota, In 1832, he experienced religion, and for some time was united to the Methodist Protestant Church, but afterwards connected himself with the Methodist Episcopal Church. For the last year, he has evidently been pining for eternity. Judge Beecher was a man of sound judgment, great energy of character and mental discrimination. By his untiring perseverance and correct calculations in his business pursuits, he amassed considerable wealth, from comparatively small means to commence with. He was called to fill some of the most important offices in the county. He was affable and courteous to all, and being a man of great monetary transactions, his loss will be greatly felt in this community.
