Beth (Betty) Burton Stohl passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, June 13th 2008, three days before her 92nd birthday. She resided at 1050 South Oak Hills Way (2700 East) in the University Village area of Salt Lake City, Utah at the time of her death.

She was born June 16, 1916, in Salt Lake City, to Carl Cushing and Ella Christopherson Burton. Betty lived a full and happy life. We will all miss her but she left us a wonderful legacy. Betty grew up in Salt Lake City, attended Highland Park Elementary, Irving Junior High and South High School. She went to BYU and later graduated from the University of Utah where she affiliated with Delta Gamma Sorority. She attended graduate school at New York University where she got a masters degree in Business and Retailing.

She worked at Lord and Taylor and later moved back to Salt Lake City, where she became the personnel manager at the downtown Keith O'Brien department store. It was at Keith O'Brien where her boss, Dave Ellison, introduced her to his friend Clark Stohl. They fell in love quickly and married in the Salt Lake Temple on February 13, 1940. Betty and Clark moved to San Francisco where Clark worked for the U.S. Mint. They moved back to Salt Lake and lived in the Highland Park area where they raised their family on the corner of Stratford Avenue and Beverly Street.

An amazing homemaker, she will be best remembered for her big batches of sweet rolls, beautiful pies, homemade chile sauce and mustard pickle, all of which she shared generously with others. Everyone loved her roast beef dinners on Sunday afternoons. She sewed dresses for her daughters and knit Christmas stockings for children and grandchildren. Our Dad always said Mom could do more things well than anyone he knew and it was true. She could play Chopin on the piano, teach gospel doctrine, host a dinner party with ease, keep a greenhouse full of plants thriving and sing dozens of fun songs to her children and grandchildren. She loved her friends and belonged to several clubs, as did many of the women in her era. She was a member of Classics Club, Bridge Club and Economy Club. She and Clark belonged to "Just-A-Mere's," a dinner group of their dearest friends. Betty loved being a Latter-day Saint and read The Book of Mormon faithfully. She served in her church in so many ways. Her most memorable calling was with her husband, Clark, serving as Directors of Church Hosting for 14 years. They were able to meet interesting people from all over the world. Betty was honored to become friends with the Queen of Thailand and thought Ronald Reagan was very handsome. Betty wrote about her life in a little book called, "Forget Me Not." We won't forget you Mom, Granny and Great Granny. Your life will forever inspire us to be more and do more.

She is survived by six of her seven children, Burton (Marilyn) Stohl, Katie (Ellis) Ivory, Sara (Roger) Boyer, Martha (Paul) Gardiner, Amy (Dick) Moffat and Laura (Robert) Chipman; daughter, Jennis Elizabeth, died in an auto accident at age two. Betty was proud to tell everyone of her 33 grandchildren and her 79 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Kathryn (Frank) Everett and Jane (Keith) Graham. Special thanks to Vicky Booth, Mom's dear friend and devoted care-giver.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at 12:00 Noon, at the Monument Park 17th Ward Chapel, 2795 East Crestview Drive (1010 South). Friends and Family may call at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the Church one hour prior to the Funeral Services.
