HAROLD RAFFERTY
DIES FROM BURNS
Harold Rafferty, 14 years of
age, died about noon today
death resulting from burn re-
ceived in a fire at the West Rock
school house about 7:30 this
morning. He was using kero-
sene to start the fire in the
school building when the kero-
sene exploded, setting fire to
his clothing. Dr. A. K. Strat-
te was called and the unfortu-
nate lad was rushed to the Bra-
ham hospital, where he passed
away a few hours later. His
mother is the housekeeper at
the A. J. Anderson farm home
there. The explosion also set
fire to the building, which was
completely destroyed.
There are two school build-
ings at West Rock, District 12 ,
the one destroyed being the first
building constructed and not
very large. The Pine City fire
department responded to a call
and were able to save the other
school building, the woodshed
and two outhouses. The larger
building was on fire when the
fire department reached there,
but they were able to extinguish
it before much damage was
done.
The Rush City department al-
so responded to a call but the
local department had things un-
der control when they arrived.
