Born on July 21, 1929 in Roaring Spring, Tx, he graduated from Roaring Springs High School in Roaring Springs, and Draughon's Business School in Lubbock. He started his banking career with First State Bank in Matador. In 1967 he moved to Levelland and went to work at First National Bank as Vice President and Cashier. Following his retirement, he went to work with Coldwell Banker- Paxton Real Estate and worked there until moving to Lubbock in 2001. He married Oleta Holt in January, 1948, in Matador. She preceded him in death in 1997. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Levelland.
Survivors include sons, Steve Gwinn and wife Beth of Lubbock; Dannie Gwinn and wife Carie of Seymour; and daughter, Judy Hempel and husband Bob, also of Lubbock; sisters, Gloria Lee of Spur; and Dorothy Bailey of Lockney; five grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
