AMORY - Morris Huddleston Bell, 83, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at his home after a long illness. He was born Sept. 9, 1916, in Wren to Robert Toombs and Addie Mae Early Bell. He was a graduate of Wren High School and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He married Clara Mae Pigford on Aug. 6, 1938. He was an employee of the City of Okolona Electric Department for 28 years, serving as superintendent at his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Okolona, where he was a member of the choir, director of the Training Union, and secretary-treasurer of the Brotherhood and the Chickasaw County-Wide Baptist Brotherhood. He and his wife went on several mission trips with the church youth.

He was active in the Masonic and Eastern Star organizations for more than 50 years. He was past Master of the Prairie Lodge; past High Priest of the Okolona Chapter No. 27 Royal Arch Masons; past Illustrious Master of Tupelo Council No. 6 Royal and Select Masters; past Imminent Commander of Ivanhoe Commandry No. 10, Knight Templars in Okolona; a 32nd degree member of Corinth Consistory, Scottish Rite in Corinth; a member of Mississippi Pryor No. 36; a member of Knights of York Cross of Honor in Meridian; a Shriner and a member of Hamasa Temple since 1945; and secretary and recorder of Okolona Masonic Bodies for 36 years.

He had written several articles regarding Free & Accepted Masonry. He helped organize the Okolona Chapter of the Order of Demolay and served as chairman of the Advisory Council. He was a member of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Association. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 1 at the First Baptist Church in Okolona with the Rev. Randy Lewman and the Rev. Roy McHenry officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery in Okolona . E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Mae Bell of Amory; a daughter and son-in-law, Robbie B. and James D. Huffman of Amory; a sister, Ann McAuley of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren, Kim Oakley and her husband, Sid, and Cindy H. Boatfield and her husband, Glenn, all of Atlanta, Ga., and Morris Andrew "Marty" Huffman and his wife, Marcia, of Amory; six great-grandchildren, James David Huffman III, Andrew Blake Huffman, Jamie Heather Oakley, Jared Tyler Oakley, Reagan Nicole Huffman and Morris Andrew Huffman Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Martin T. and Ruble E. Bell; two sisters, Frances Martin and Kate Kelly; and a grandson, James David "Jimmy" Huffman Jr.

Pallbearers will be Lee Barnes of the Richmond Lodge; Bobby Bean of the Prairie Lodge; Dwayne Dunn, Wayne Garner and Billy Wright, all of the J.A. Mayfield Lodge; and Billy Blue of the Houston Lodge.

The attending Masons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time today at the church.
