George served in the National Guard Company K, 50th infantry and also served in the Spanish American War. He contracted malaria during that war and was never in good health after that.
George is laid to rest in the Woodland Cemetery, not far from his father. His mother's grave stone is missing, but she is listed as being buried there as well.
