Cephas was a son of Jacob Chesley Boone and Martha Ann Peters. They lived in Rocky Mount, Franklin County, Virginia. By the 1900 census he had left home and was working in Miami, Cass County, Indiana, staying at his cousin's, Henry A. Peters. They were limeworkers.

On February 23, 1905 Cephas married Nannie Belle Byrd in Rocky Mount. She was the daughter of James and Julia M Byrd who had moved to Rocky Mount from Redwood.

Children of Cephas and Nannie were Ruby Armenta, Jessie Carleton, James Daniel, Oscar Jacob, Annie Julia, Dr. Aretas Cephas, Earl Vincent, and Alma Elizabeth.

Nannie died in 1935.

On April 25, 1948 Cephas married Alice Moetta King. She was the widow of his youngest brother John Dempsey Boone, who had apparently brought about his own death in 1945, and Cephas helped Alice finish raising her children.

When Cephas and Alice in turn passed away, they were buried by their original spouses.
