Mrs. Fisher was born in Morrisville, New York, and was the seventh of the nine children of Robert and Lydia (White) Avery. She was a descendant of Petigrine White, the first white child born in Massachusetts on the Mayflower while off the coastline. She was a school teacher until her marriage to John Millard, March 24,1829. After his death in 1846, leaving her with six children, she again taught school until 1851, when she emigrated to Oregon, crossing the plains in a five month journey. The train was attacked by Indians but none of the party were killed. In 1854 she married the Rev. Ezra Fisher, in Oregon City, after the death of his wife Lucy Fisher. She endeared herself to his five children. After the death of Ezra Fisher,in 1874, she lived in Albany,Oregon, with her daughter and son in law James Elkins. At the age of 97 she could still read fine print without glasses, crochet fine linen lace, and write four page letters full of interesting information. She was constant in her attendence at worship until the last few months of her life. She loved her Savior who "she had served so long".
