Leatha Lorean Moore
Leatha was born to Alvin and Madeline Monroe at Eight Mile, Idaho, a rural area near Soda Springs. She was raised on a ranch with seven siblings. She attended school in Soda Springs. After completing high school, she attended University of Idaho – Southern Branch (in Pocatello), where she earned a teaching certificate. While teaching in Shelly, Idaho, she met Teddy R Moore; they wed on June 21, 1953.
Leatha loved teaching, but temporarily left the work force to nurture her children. As her youngest child approached school age, Leatha prepared to resume teaching, earning a Bachelor of Education from Idaho State University. She taught primarily third graders in Parma, Idaho for many years until her retirement, and privately tutored many other elementary school age children for several years thereafter. In addition to having been an outstanding mother and educator, Leatha loved to read, was a skilled seamstress and made the best cakes and cookies.
Leatha was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and her family were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. Leatha loved her independence and lived by herself for several years after Ted's death. Although she lived her last few years in Boise with her daughter, Trina, she considered Parma, Idaho to be her home.
Leatha died of natural causes on May 5th, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Ted, her son Kerrick Moore, and her daughter Rochelle Moore. She is survived by her daughter Trina Moore, daughter-in-law Darla Moore, son & daughter-in-law Craig & Kathy Moore and son & daughter-in-law Kurtis & Leilani Moore. She is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss cookie-grandma.
Services will be held Saturday, May 12th, 2018 at 11 a.m. under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 307 E Andrews, Parma, Idaho. A public viewing will precede the service from approximately 10:00 until 10:45 a.m.
