Reva Vernon Abel, 84, of Hope, formerly of Columbus, died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 1997, at Miller's Merry Manor at Hope.

She was a retired seamstress for Leta's Tailor Shop and a member of East Columbus United Methodist Church.

Funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Myers Funeral Service, Reed and Jewell Chapel on 25th Street, with the Rev. Leslie Bearden officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from noon until service time Saturday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Mrs. Abel was born Aug. 11, 1912, in Jamestown, Tenn., the daughter of Fount and Jennie Patton Crabtree. She married William Francis Abel Dec. 16, 1940. He died April 27, 1971.

Survivors include daughters, Shirley Holcomb of North Vernon and Sharon Brinker of Hope; a sister, Gladys Lee of Pikeville, Tenn.; a brother, Willard Crabtree of Columbus; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Holland and Willis Crabtree; and infant sisters, Mandy and Omie Crabtree.
