EAST WENATCHEE - Close to 70 people gathered on the grounds of Kenroy Elementary School in East Wenatchee on Thursday for a tree-planting ceremony in memory of a former student.
Aaron Spurlock died July 25 at Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle at the age of 14, following a battle with cystic fibrosis and leukemia. His parents are Terry and Terri Spurlock of East Wenatchee.
Above, his father shovels dirt around the tree, as family members, staff members and students watch.
One of Aaron's favorite television programs was "The Price is Right." Just before he died, an aunt in California got tickets for the show and he and his parents flew there earlier in July. "He got to go backstage and meet Bob Barker," said his mother. A teacher at the school, Helen Osborne, had Aaron in her fifth-grade class.
"He taught me as much as I taught him - about life," she said. "We were a real close class."
