Funeral services for Martha Jean Parks Goodman, age 74, of Rusk are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008, in Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Rob Godwin officiating. Interment will be in the Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.

Mrs. Goodman died June 4, 2008, at her residence.

She was born July 9, 1933, in Houston to the late Sol and Helen Altman Parks. She was a resident of Rusk for 11 years, formerly of Texarkana and Galveston. Mrs. Goodman was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Galveston. She received a B.A. degree in Home Economics from The University of Texas and was personnel director for many years at Jack Tar Hotels in Galveston. She taught home economics at Ball High School in Galveston for three years and taught at Galveston College under the Hilton Hotel Restaurant Management Program. Mrs. Goodman was a loyal volunteer for Galveston Historical Foundation and Singletary Memorial Library in Rusk.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Dr. John W. Goodman of Rusk; son, John Parks Goodman of Denton; daughter and son-in-law, Martha Elizabeth and Jackie Neff of Galveston; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Bonnie Parks of Livingston; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Wally Burbridge of Richardson, Sue and Ed Lilly of Lampasas; three grandchildren, Katye, Karen and Paul; great-grandson, Kyoto Berhane; numerous nieces and nephews.
