Funeral services for Mr. Herman E. Garner, 77, will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at 10:30 AM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Mark Sutton, Rev. John Harp, and Rev. Dan Gardner. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 5 - 8 PM this evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Garner entered into rest on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Willis Knighton North Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Caldwell Parish, LA. on July 1, 1926 and had lived in the Shreveport area for the past 58 years. He was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran and had retired from the IRS following 34 years of service. He also served as a deacon at Brookwood Baptist Church and was the former financial secretary for the church. Mr. Garner enjoyed traveling with his wife of 57 1-2 years and with his family. He loved playing bingo and was an avid football fan. His teams to watch were Evangel on Friday night, LSU on Saturday, and the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melton and Ruth Garner; and his loving wife, Mrs. Annie Lou Garner.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Peggy G. Eberhardt of Shreveport, LA.; son, Herman E. Garner, Jr. of Lafayette, LA.; sisters, Margaret G. Pruitt of Jackson, MS., Myrna L. White of Texas City, TX.; grandsons, Chad Eberhardt and Marty Garner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be his two grandsons; Chad Eberhardt and Marty Garner, Michael Stone, Chuck Stone, Scottie Shaw, and Bob Russell.

The family would like to extend a special thank you, first and foremost, to Aunt Margaret and also to Bill Green, Dr. Robert Nickelson, Dr. Lane Rosen, the staff of Willis Knighton Cancer Center, and to the staff and residents of Summerfield Estates.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Herman E. Garner to the American Cancer Society or to the donor's choice.

"He was a cancer success; cancer may have won the battle, but Daddy won the Victory!"
