LEAH BAKER was born January 26th, 1826, died December 23rd, 1896, aged 70 years, 10 months, and 27 days. She was born in Washington Co., Maryland, In the year 1844 she came with her mother and Sister Lydia Baker to Ogle Co., Ill. In 1846 she was married to David J. Baker. She was the mother of three children, but her husband and one child preceded her to the home of the blessed. About one year ago she was stricken with paralysis, but survived it, being left somewhat helpless for a year, when the fatal stroke came, and she passed away peacefully and now rests with her loved ones in the mansions of the blessed. She and her husband were converted in a meeting held in Adeline, Illinois, in 1801, and joined the United Brethren Church, in which she lived a faithful and consistent Christian. She leaves two sons, grandchildren and a sister, and a large circle of friends to mourn their loss. A large and sympathizing congregation assembled to pay the last tribute of respect to one they loved and esteemed. The funeral service was conducted by the writer, assisted by Rev. Smith of the Liberal United Brethren Church. The Lord sustain the bereaved children and friends.
