Jack grew up in Palisade and graduated from Palisade High School in 1945. Following graduation he attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He farmed near Palisade until 1950 at which time he entered the U.S. Army. Jack served with the First Calvary Division in Korea. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to Palisade and on September 14, 1952 was united in marriage to Rosetta Miller. Jack and Rosetta made their home in the Palisade area where he continued to farm until 1971 when he became Post Master of the Palisade Post Office. He was employed by the post office until his retirement in 1992. In 1994, Jack and Rosetta moved to Red Oak, Iowa to be close to their son and his family. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching the grandchildren in their activities. Jack was a member of the United Methodist church, VFW, American Legion and Elks Club. Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Rosetta Abbuhl, of Red Oak, IA; Son Bernard Abbuhl and wife Martha of Red Oak, IA; 3 grandchildren: Jacob of Flagstaff, AZ; Jason and Arinda of Red Oak, IA; sister Janice Corfman of Brea, CA; nephew David Corfman of Yorba Linda, CA; other relatives and a host of friends.
