Hillsboro Evening Mirror, 16 Apr 1945 - Rufus Massengale, a former long time resident of Hill county, passed away at Sanger Ave., Waco, TX, sometime early Sun. morning, April 15, aged 79 years. Funeral services were to be held at the Irene Bapt. church at 3 Mon. afternoon with interment in Salem Cem., near Irene. Services at the grave were to be in charge of Irene Lodge AF & AM. Mr. Massengale was a native Texan & was born in Ellis county, near Milford, 2 Apr 1866. He had spent the greater part of his life in Hill county. He was married to Lula Beatrice Caldwell, 26 Dec 1889. Mrs. Massengale passed away 31 May 1942. He united with the Irene Bapt. church in 1912 & had continued his membership there since. Fraternally he was identified with the Masonic order, holding his membership in the Irene Lodge AF & AM. Survivors: 5 sons: N. A.-Houston, Ben & Orval-Fort Worth, Edwin-New Orleans & Fred Massengale-Tyler; 2daus: Mrs. Lawrence Bruton-Hillsboro & Mrs. George Vereen-Waco. 14 gch, 3 great-gch & a half-sister: Mrs. H. B. Hooks-Hillsboro.
