Company A
3rd Regiment
New Jersey Cav
------------
Francis Gurney Springer, named for Francis Gurney of Philadelphia who was connected to family. FGS is my 2nd great-grandfather. Shortly after the Civil War ended he went west with his young family and several of his brothers. They first settled in Illinois.
Starting their own families in IL, the brothers' paths separated in some ways, but mostly they all went further west. Francis and his family made their way finally to Kansas, where my 'twig' of the family stayed until I was 5.
