Lewisburg woman a former area resident

Eudora SPONENBERG BOWER, 93, Riverwoods, Lewisburg, died at 7:55 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 1997, at the Evangelical Community Hospital. Born in Berwick, she was a daughter of the late Harry E. and Bertha ASHTON SPONENBERG. Her husband, Russell S. BOWER, to whom she was married for 57 years, died Oct. 28, 1980; a son, David BOWER, died in 1970; and a daughter, Janice B. ERICKSON, died in 1988. A sister, Ethel DIETTERICH; a brother, Lee SPONENBERG; one grandson and one great-granddaughter also died previously. She was a 1921 graduate of the Berwick High School and also a graduate of the former Bloomsburg Normal School. Prior to settling in Lewisburg in 1968, BOWER briefly taught in rural public schools in Luzerne County. She was a member of the Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, Lewisburg. She was active in the O.E.S. Junieta Chapter No. 8, Clarks Green, the Lewisburg Garden Club and the Lewisburg United Methodist Home Auxiliary.
Surviving are a son, William R. BOWER, Northumberland; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donal SPONENBERG, Berwick. Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, 40 S. Third St., Lewisburg, with her pastor, the Rev. John J. Dromazos, officiating. Burial will be in Mazeppa Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Gary H. Cronrath Funeral Home, 106 S. Second and St. Louis sts., Lewisburg.
