Daughter of Francis "Frank" McLaws and Lydia Pearl Flake. Wife of Duard Fyffe. Mother of Hugh, Marjorie and Garry.

Prudence McLaws, daughter of Francis (Frank) McLaws and Lydia Pearl Flake, was born 28 September 1903 in Snowflake, Arizona.

She attended Snowflake Elementary school, the Snowflake Academy, and Flagstaff Normal School graduating with a two-year teaching certificate. Later she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Northern Arizona Teachers College. She taught school for eight years in Central and twenty-nine years in Thatcher, all in the primary grades. In Thatcher she taught First Grade. She retired after thirty-seven years of teaching.

Prudence served in many positions of the Church: teacher in the Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society and also in the stake. She served on the election board for Central. She traveled to California, Oregon and across the United States to Florida and Kentucky, Old Mexico, Hawaii, and Canada.

Duard and Prudence were married 1 June 1927 in Salt Lake City. They made their home in the old Thomas home just west of the railroad tracks (on Central Road). The house later burned. They had a home built just west of the old Thomas home. Laurence Woodhouse built it for them.

Prudence loved to crochet, tat, and make quilts. Her many afghans and quilts were given to family and friends. She served as the assistant postmistress after their marriage all the time Duard was the postmaster.

Duard and Prudence had three children: Hugh, living in California; Marjorie of Mesa, and Gary of Apache Junction.

When the young boys in town were drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II, Duard kept in touch with all of them, writing regularly. Then when they returned home, it was Duard who welcomed them into his home and listened to their stories of horror and what they endured while in the service.

After retiring from teaching, Prudence substituted for years. In august 1981 she sold her home in Central and on September 1 moved to Mesa to make her home with her daughter Marjorie.

Marjorie is one of seven National Representatives of the FHA and has traveled over a great part of the United States holding seminars for Homemaking teachers.
