Funeral services for Alvin H. Dodge, 90, of St. John's, Arizona, and formerly of the Gila Valley were conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Old Central Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Bishop Steve Hooper of the Central Ward.

Concluding services with military honors conferred by the Gila Valley Veteran's Honor Guard followed in the Central Cemetery. Alvin passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at his residence.

Alvin Horace Dodge was born Aug. 27, 1919, in Central. Following his education, he enlisted in the United States Army to help support the war effort of World War II. Alvin proudly served in the 314th Battalion. Following his honorable discharge, Alvin returned home, where he began working in construction as a union carpenter. Throughout his lifetime, Alvin worked hard to provide for his family. In retirement he could often be found enjoying his time in the out-of-doors. Alvin especially reveled in camping, pitching horse shoes and gardening. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Alvin will be remembered for his love of family and friends.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Corina Romero Dodge; two daughters, Sharon Taylor (Kaye) and Eloise Stowell (Jerry); three sisters, Alice Cluff (Carling), Nellie Kearns (Jack) and Lola Steele; three brothers, Hugh Dodge (LaFon), Veldon Dodge and Thurbert Dodge (Patsy); 16 grandchildren, Paul Taylor (Heather), Phillip Taylor, Kevin Taylor, Leah Bregar (Dennis), Patricia McDaniels, Lance Taylor (Amanda), Craig Taylor, Ryan Stowell (Elizabeth), Aaron Stowell, Kevin Stowell (Diane), Nathan Stowell (Julie), Justin Stowell (Christina), Cameron Stowell (Megan), Michelle Mortenson, Tonya Shamey and Stephanie McKinney (Kyle); 40 great-grandchildren, Tyler Taylor, Nicholas Taylor, Jacob Taylor, Alex Taylor, Ashton Taylor, Jesse Taylor, Michael Taylor, Tawni Lee, Tara Taylor, Megan Taylor, Ashley Bregar, Alesia Bregar, Dennis Bregar II, Alexandria Bregar, Brittney Taylor, Randi McDaniels, Mikayla Mc-Daniels, Riley Mc-Daniels, Alyssa Taylor, Brandon Taylor, Haily Taylor, Heidi Taylor, Jeremy Stowell, Emily Stowell, Amanda Stowell, Adam Stowell, Derek Stowell, Brendon Stowell, Kiersten Stowell, Raegen Stowell, MacKenna Stowell, Gavin Stowell, Joshua Stowell, Jacob Stowell, Benjamin Stowell, Trevin Mortenson, Mason Mortenson, Treyton Mortenson, Keegan McKinney and Kayson McKinney; and five great-great-grandchildren. Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Lesa Layton Dodge; his son, Rodney Dodge; a daughter, Ellen Dodge Shamey; and a grandson, Preston Taylor.
