Edsil Myron Allred met Alice Choules in Idaho. She was the daughter of Jacob Choules and Eliza Stagg Newberry. They were married 29 January 1888 in Fairview, Idaho. They made their first home in Lewiston, Utah, then moved back to Fairview, Idaho.
In the spring of 1896 Edsil became very ill. The doctor told him to move to a warm dry climate. He had a brother living in Thatcher, Arizona, so decided to move there.
