Prominent Farmer, Dairyman, Succumbs
Funeral services were held on Christmas Day in the chapel of Barry Funeral Home for L Z Hurt, 74, prominent farmer and dairyman, who died at his home two miles east of Okolona Monday following a long illness. The rites were conducted by the Rev. G H Gay, pastor of the Baptist Church of which Mr. Hurt was a faithful member. Burial was in the I O O F Cemetery.
Mr. Hurt had lived here for the past thirty-seven years, having come from Obion, Tennessee where he was reared. Until his health failed some years ago he was active in church and civic circles. He had many friends and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him.
When a very young man, Mr. Hurt married Miss Ruth McKinnon, who died about forty years ago. Six children were born to them five of whom survive, J A Hurt of Lebeland, Texas, Paul Hurt of Tampico, Mexico, Webb Hurt of Birmingham, Mrs. R W Mahon of Troy, Tennessee and Mrs. J M Brett of Jackson, Tennessee. He is also survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Ragsdale Hurt, a son, Byron Hurt, and seven grandchildren.
