John Spencer Howey, born September 4, 1841, was a son of James and Keziah (Crume) Howey. On February 15, 1865 John, along with his brother-in-law, Henry Bunger, volunteered for one years enlistment as a private in Company F, 150th Regiment of Indiana Infantry at Lafayette, IN. On August 2, 1874 John was united in married to Hannah Eliza Winder and to this union were born: James Henry Howey, Leroy Benjamin Howey, John Sherman Howey, Louis Eugene Howey, Albert Francis Howey and a son who died shorty after birt.
