Obituary: Jake Wall
Jake Wall, 85, Rupert, died Monday at Cassia Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 10, 1898, in Sherman County, Neb., the son of Cornelius and Agnes Prenkratz Wall. He received his education in Nebraska and moved to Idaho in 1916. He married Martha Bill Sept. 4, 1918 in Minidoka.
He began his law enforcement career in Minidoka County as a deputy sheriff in 1943 and was elected sheriff in 1944. He later served three terms as probate judge.
He was a charter member and past -president of the Rupert Lions Club; a member of the Idaho Peace Officers Association; and was active in numerous civic organizations, including the Red Cross and Boy Scouts; and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He recieved an Award of Commendation from the governor for public service to the state and the people of Idaho.
Surviving are his widow, Rupert; two sons. Calvin Wall, Rupert, and Ray Wall, Burley; two daughters, Francis Klieem and Lynn Thomas, Boise, three brothers, Speed Wall, Rupert, Chris Wall and Pete Wall, Burley; two sisters, Mary Duphfey, Boise, and Beth Laney, San Diego, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son and one brother.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Rupert United Methodist Church, with Pastor DeWayne Spooner of LaGrande, Ore., officiating. Burial will be in Rupert Cemetery.
Friends may call at Hansen Mortuary Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Rupert or the Idaho Youth Ranch.
