Was Consul to SantaFe New Mexico, appointed by President Tyler, and lived there for a period of time.
As a young man, he established a respectable school for young boys. It was one mile north of Columbia, which at that time was at the leading edge of the western frontier in Missouri. His Bear Creek Academy was established in 1834. Many of his scholars grew to be leaders of the community. At this time, he was known as J. Coleman Boggs.
Was a candidate for congress from Missouri.
Was the first postmaster of Leona Texas, appointed 28 December 1846.
Was a Medical Doctor, Pharmacist, and merchant.Provided effective treatment for Malaria & Fevers as originated by Dr. Sappington in Missouri.He received his medical training in Franklin Missouri, under Dr. J. H. Benson.
Was a citizen of the Republic of Texas prior to statehood.
