Final Rites for Mrs. M L Travis
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in Aberdeen for Mrs. Julia Elizabeth Travis, 85, who died Friday afternoon at the home of her son, Ben Travis, near Aberdeen. Rev. Thomas, pastor of the Aberdeen Baptist Church, conducted the rites and Robert Cooper sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Does Jesus Care". Burial was in the I O O F Cemetery with Barry Funeral Home in charge. The Rev. S E Byler, pastor of the Okolona Baptist Church, of which Mrs. Travis was a member , conducted the services at the grave.
A native of Tennessee, Mrs. Travis came to Okolona with her family in 1918. Since the death of her husband, M L Travis, in 1929, she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. C D Quinn, much of the time, and had been in Aberdeen a few weeks when the end came. She had been in ill health for a few years and confined to her bed for two weeks.
In addition to Mrs. Quinn and her son at Aberdeen, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Nell Mackay of San Francisco; two sons, M J Travis, of San Francisco, and Bill Travis of Sebastopol, California; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Holder, Mrs. Ada Holder of Greenfield, Tenn., and Mrs. Lee McCoy of Milan, Tenn.; a brother, Alvin Knott, of Lubbock, Texas; twenty grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
