Services Held for "Red" Brett Sunday
Graveside services were held at two o'clock Sunday afternoon at the I O O F Cemetery for James Matthew "Red" Brett, of Jackson, Tenn., former Okolona businessman, who died Friday morning at Kennedy Veterans Hospital, Memphis, where he had been a patient for several months. The rites were conducted by the Rev. S E Byler. Lanier Funeral Hom of Jackson was in charge. Member of Prairie Lodge F & A M served as pallbearers. Funeral services had been held in Jackson at ten o'clock Sunday morning.
Mr. Brett, who served with the United States Navy during World War I, was 52. In early youth he came to Okolona from Bristow, Kentucky, and remained here until about 15 years ago. For a number of years he and his brother, J A Brett, operated the Brett Hotel. Disposing of his interest in the business, he moved to Tupelo where he operated a Café for about a year before going to Jackson and opening a similar business.
He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Marguerite Hurt and a daughter, Miss Polly Brett, both of Jackson; his father, J M Brett, of Waynesboro; two brothers, M D Brett of Clarksdale and J A Brett of Waynesboro; and two sisters, Mrs. Luther Smith and Mrs. J T Lee, both of Mobile, all of whom were here for the rites.
