Gideon Woodruff was the first pastor of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Mantee, Webster Mississippi. He was born in Spartenburg County, South Carolina, the son of Samuel & Nancy "Pilgrim" Woodruff. In 1839, he moved to Mississippi and settled in what is now Clay County, Mississippi.
Gideon was ordained a Baptist Minister in South Carolina. He helped establish churches in Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Yalobusha counties in Mississippi.
Gideon married Philadelphia Bobo abt. 1825, they had nine children;
