A. G. Derrick Obituary

Died at his home, in the 6th district of McMinn County, Tennessee, August 28, 1881, A. G. Derrick, in the 64th year of his age -

He had been a sufferer for 15 years, and this increased until his system gave way to that disease, inflammation of the bladder, and he passed away, leaving a wife and seven children to mourn his loss. Mr. Derrick was born, lived and died a Tennessean.

In his 23rd year he professed faith in Christ and lived a faithful Christian life. As a member of the Methodist Church he was a zealous defender of her doctrines. Was kind to the poor and ever loved to help the needy. As a man, he was conscientious in all his dealings with man. In his death our community lost a good man, the church one of her most devoted members. But our loss is his gain.

On Friday before his death, he longed to be freed from this painful body that he might rest in "realms of bliss", till the resurrection morn, when God would make his body a glorious body after manner of Christ. Mother and children, weep not. Jesus lives to comfort you. Look to and trust him, and in a short while you too will be called Home to enjoy Heaven with all its fullness.

"Wait for us, brother, till the Angel shall sever the ties that now bind us to those we here love, Then, all together, through the ages forever, We'll join hands again in they new home above". JAS

as transcribed by descendant Mary Geneva Malone Thompson and copied from clipping saved by Tenn. T. Burn Bloom (Mrs. G. M. Bloom), may have been in "Athens Post".
