Mary Ann Earle Atkins was the daughter of Jesse Lee Atkins and Sarah Smith Jordan Atkins, who moved from Stewart Co., TN, shortly before she was born. She was nicknamed "Mot" by her father.

She married William Marion McCain in Yell Co., AR, on 29 Dec 1870 and in the following years lost 7 infant children. Daughter Eldora was born in 1882, married John Hatch and had a daughter named Pearl before dying at the age of 26 in 1908. Martha and William's sons Felix and William Aaron survived to have families of their own.

Martha was loved by the family, as evidenced by the birthday party given to her before she left Yell County in January 1933. She loved to teach others how to spin and is shown with her nephew James Garrett Atkins, son of her deceased brother Richard Henry Atkins.

When her husband William died in January 1933, two weeks after the move to TX, he was buried in Cedar Crest Cemetery. Martha lived another year and a half and joined him there in June 1934. Their son William Aaron McCain is also buried in this cemetery.
