Coach Buenos M. Baker, the son of the late Ira and Maude Rose Baker, was a native of Polk County, but a resident of McMinn for most of his life. He was a coach and teacher for 41 years prior to his retirement. He was a graduate of Milligan College in Johnson City, and was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodsit Church, Meridian Sun Lodge, and the Elks Club.

He was married to Velma Waller, and their children were Phyllis (Traylor), and W. Kinzel Baker. He had a surviving sister Elida Brock and a brother Robert W. Baker of Etowah.
