Elijah M. Barton Dies At Hospital

Elijah M. Barton , 81 and a long time resident of Wallowa county, passed away Sunday morning, November 6. He had been in failing health for several months.

He was born April 8, 1872 in West Virginia and was married there to Miss Alberta Lyon April 24, 1893. He and his family came to Wallowa county in April of 1905 and he homesteaded land near Promise where he farmed and raised stock.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Lula Carper of Lostine; Mrs. Mary Trump of Elgin and Mrs. Lala Ross of Ashland, Ore.; three sons, Silas, of Wallowa, Jim of Elgin and John of Grossman. There are also 26 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Funeral services, arranged by Booth-Bollman Funeral Home, were yesterday at 1:30 p.m. at Wallowa Christian church with Rev. Harold walker officiating. Burial was in the Promise cemetery.
