Marriage takes place in old soldiers' home
Biloxi, Miss, Jan 19
T.L. Nichols, 84-year-old inmate of the Jefferson Davis Soldiers Home, and Mrs. Alice Henshaw, 65, wealthy widow of Senatobia, who has been visiting at the home for four days, were married in the dining room of the soldiers home this morning by the Rev. Charles Calhoun, an inmate. The bridegroom has been in the home two years, coming from Marshall County. The ceremony was witnessed by about 150. The couple left this morning for Mrs. Nichols' home in
Senatobia where they will live.
Apparently, this came from the Tate County Democrat, a weekly paper published in Senatobia.
His Obit:
"Feb. 10 Senatobia, Miss
Thaddeus Lee Nichols, 93, Tate County's last civil war veteran, died of paralysis at his home here Saturday. He will be buried at Beauvoir Old Soldiers Home, Gulfport.....He was born in Watson, Marshall County, Miss June 8, 1846. Mr Nichols served about a year as courier of Forrest's Cavalry, taking part in several skirmishes in North Mississippi. After the war he engaged in the mercantile business in Marshall County...He had nine children by his first wife...."
