Ellen Ball Ferguson, 72, of Bloomington, died Tuesday, February 24, 2004, at her home. She was born August 16, 1931, in Richmond, Indiana, to Benjamin A. and Ella Rothrock Ball.

She was married February 1, 1953, to James H. Ferguson of Bloomington, who predeceased her September 25, 2001.

A 1948 graduate of Richmond High School, she attended Indiana University, where she received her Bachelor of Music with honors in 1952, her Bachelor of Music Eduation with honors in 1954, and her Master of Library Science in 1990.

She is survived by a loving family, her son Ted, her son David and wife Tyler, all of Bloomington; her daughter Nancy of Greenbrae, California; her daughter Susanna Kempf and husband George, of Indianapolis, daughter-in-law, Lee Ann Merry, of Bloomington; and five grandchildren, Katelyn, Jimmy, and Mary Ellen Kempf, and Stuart and Emma Ferguson; her brother and sister-in-law, George and Carolyn Ball of Alexandria, Virginia; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Mary Ann Ferguson Seeber; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Steve and Connie Ferguson.

Early in her marriage, she served as organist at St. Charles Catholic Church in Bloomington and as a clerk-typist in the Reading Room of the School of Education at Indiana University.

Her memberships in organizations include St. Mark's United Methodist Church where she was Librarian for 12 years; Bible Study Fellowship, Delta Delta Delta, Alpha Associate of Tri Kappa, Navajo Club, Friday Musicale, Sigma Alpha Iota and the Indiana University Alumni Association.

A great Hoosier sports fan, she could always be found in Memorial Stadium at IU football games, or at Assembly Hall for IU basketball games, or in search of a broadcast if they were on the road. She enjoyed many hours with her family and grandchildren, and there were many memorable Christmases spent in Sanibel, Florida.

She was a dedicated partner with her husband Jim in business, law, and politics. She served as Republican precinct committeewoman from 1966 to 1982, and volunteered on many political campaigns. She traveled with Jim on business trips, and kept their business and personal lives organized.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2004, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jim Ramsey officiating. Burial will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens.

Friends may call Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home in Bloomington.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana University School of Music c/o the IU Foundation or St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
