He was born on December 29, 1938, in Monroe County, Indiana, the son of Ira and Gladys (Hughes) Bohall.
He was a Disabled American Veteran — Vietnam era. He was a sergeant in the Marine Corps during Vietnam Conflict and had previously served in the Air Force. He was a Major in the Indiana National Guard Reserve. He retired from the City of Bloomington; he was a Police Officer for 20 years and a Bank One Security Officer. He was a member of the Monroe County Masonic Lodge #22, F&A.M., the American Legion Post #18, and a member of the Pentecostal Faith.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis (New) Bohall of Bloomington; children and their spouses, Susan and Jim Martin of Bloomington, Julie and James Chasteen of Bloomington, Lisa and Doug West of Ellettsville, Alva Bohall Jr. of Bloomington, and Jennifer and Joshua Martin of Trappe, Maryland; 12 grandchildren, Elizabeth Martin, Matthew Martin, Nathan Tompkins, Amber Tompkins, Robert Cunningham, Larry Chasteen, Katie Bohall, Brandon Sylvester, Tyra West, Lauren Martin, Victoria Martin, and Austin Martin; one brother, Coyle David Bohall of Ellettsville; three sisters, Debbie Jones, Loretta Bohall , and Marsetta Moore , all of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Hubert Bohall and Dorval Flynn.
Funeral services will be at Day Funeral Home on Friday, February 27, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. with Jim Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens with the Veterans Honor Guard conducting military rites. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 26, 2004, from 5-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home where Masonic memorial services will be conducted 7:30 p.m.
