James R. "Jim" Baumann, 53, of Harborcreek Township, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 1996, at Hamot Medical Center.

He was born in Erie May 23, 1943, son of the late George E. and Marie Louise Spiesman Baumann.

A 1961 graduate of Cathedral Prep, Mr. Baumann served with the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps and also with the U.S. Army Reserves from 1961 to 1967; was a member of Mount Calvary Roman Catholic Church and served on various committees, including the Care and Concern Committee and Festival Committee; was a member of the Siebenbuerger club and East Erie Turners; was an active volunteer with the City Mission, working with the homeless; and was an avid record collector.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Louise Hopsecger. Survivors include his wife, Julie A. Mott Baumann; a daughter, Erin M. Baumann; three brothers, Thomas R., Joseph C. and Bruce E. Baumann, all of Erie; and many nieces, nephews and several aunts and uncles.

Friends may call at the A. Brugger and Sons Funeral Home, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 E. 38th St., today from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., and may attend a funeral Mass Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Mount Calvary Church, 2404 East Lake Road.

Burial will be at St. George Cemetery, North East. Memorials may be made to the City Mission or Mount Calvary School.
