He married Ruthie Ann Masuhara, June 2, 1984 in Anchorage, Alaska.
Dewey, as most of his close friends called him, served 9½ years in the US Air Force at Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, Alaska, Vandenberg AFB, California; and Eielson AFB, Fairbanks, Alaska. He served as a medical technician (paramedic) and received an early out at the rank of Staff Sargent. Dewey drove a school bus in Fairbanks for a few years when he decided to go back to school and obtain his Bachelor Degree in Engineering. Shortly thereafter he found out that he had a natural skill in computers and a few years later received his Bachelor of Arts in 3-D Animation, Multimedia and Video Productions. He created a nonprofit organization called North Pole Charitable Youth, Inc. (NPCYI) and began teaching youths how to do 3-D animation. That was his true love—to teach 3-D and see the projects of his students come to life. He was so proud of all of his students, especially Matthew Andrews and his brothers. One of his student's short animation comic-strip was created in his classroom, and has been produced at the beginning of the new movie "Wally" soon to be on the market.
Dewey also is a strong supporter of the Boy Scouts of American receiving the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 17. He has served as Scout Master of Troop 7 in North Pole and as a Scout Commissioner. Many scouts have earned their Eagles since his arrival in North Pole.
He has served as Sunday School President at the LDS North Pole Chapel, is an active member of the Space Program, a licensed firearm dealer, and was self-employed as a US postal contractor of nine years.
