DRUCILLA CATHARINE (also seen spelled Drusilla Catherine) ADDY was born 24 Mar 1834 in Lexington, SC; one of nine children born to Jacob Addy (27 Jul 1804-23 Jan 1863) and wife Mary Rawls (1802-20 Nov 1850) of Lexington District, SC.

'Anna' as she must have been known to her husband, was the third wife of Jonathan Proctor Milner (JPM) of Pike and Spalding Counties, GA. They were married 16 Sep 1860 in Spalding County, GA by John M. Marshall, Minister of the Gospel (MG). (See attached Marriage License & Certificate from Marriage Index of Spalding Co, GA, 1852-1873, p130.)

CATHARINE was the widow of Samuel Thomas Clower (1828-1857) of Coweta County, GA when she met and married JPM. She and Samuel had three children: Mary Jane (1854-1856), Martha 'Mattie' Ann Rawls Clower (08 Aug 1853 - 1927) and Samuel Jacob (1857-1857). Only Mattie survived infancy; she was age 4 when her father died; age 7-8 when her mother married JPM.

JONATHAN had two living children when he married Catharine: Robert Fulton (b 05 Aug 1847), age 13 and Margarette Lena 'Lula' May (b abt 1849), age abt 11. Two infants, one each by his 1st 2 wives had either died in childbirth with their mother (Little Simeon & Mother Jane) or soon thereafter, as an infant, "after a lingering illness" (Little Georgia). Georgia's mother, Mary S. Burton died 27 Jan 1860, almost 4 years after the death of Georgia who died 11 Oct 1856; both in Griffin, Spalding Co., GA.

CATHARINE and JPM were blessed with a daughter, Kate E. on 01 Jul 1861 in Griffin, Spalding Co, GA. Kate lived to adulthood, marrying and have two sons.

It was believed that Catharine & JPM also had another daughter 'Birdie'; however, in my research, I have discovered an Obituary for BIRD LEE MILNER (see Obit attached to BIRD LEE's Memorial page) that states she died 07 Jul 1864 of "fever" at aged 15 months; thus she was born c 07 Apr 1863, born & died in Griffin, Spalding Co, GA.

Catharine's obituary states she died 05 Oct 1861, Griffin, Spalding Co, GA; so she could NOT be BIRD LEE's mother.

I personally believe that the above "belief" came about because BIRD LEE 'Birdie' is buried between Anna and her birth mother Elizabeth 'Eliza' L.M. Milner, 4th wife of JPM.

The Oak Hill Cemetery Lore is that JPM had 5 wives and 5 infants that are buried side-by-side in a single row on the west side of the Milner Family Lot # 82, Block 6 of the Old Section of the cemetery. Each wife supposedly had her infant laid to rest to her right side. Again, Lore has it that "because JPM loved each of his wives equally, no one wife more than another" all of their tombstones were the same. Each wife's tombstone read: My Wife, then her 1st name and her age at death and the name of the child she died with (EX: MY WIFE JANE, AGE 25 "Little Georgia").

Then years and years and years ago (no one seems to know when), a MILNER family member reportedly removed the tombstones/markers from each of the gravesites (slabs) because 'they' felt the 10 tombstones drew too many 'curiosity seekers' and created too much 'fuss' over the family burial lot. It is not know to this day what became of those tombstones; however, the slabs (adult & child size) remain in place.

Fortunately, back in the 1990's, the Griffin-Spalding Historical Society and The Oak Hill Cemetery Preservers Committee, together with local Historians Mr. J. P. Jennings and Mr. Joe Harrell began the major undertaking of cleaning up the cemetery and restoring broken & missing markers in the cemetery. Mr. Jennings researched the Milner family and markers were made & placed on each Milner grave by Mr. Harrell.

New granite markers with cast-aluminum plaques stating the full name, dates of birth & death and the relationship to Jonathan and how each died, where known, were placed on each of his wives' and infants' graves on May 23, 2015 by great-great granddaughter, Karen Milner Freeman & her husband James 'Jim' Miller Freeman.
