Everett Clayton McDonald met Nell Brown when he attended Berea College in Berea Kentucky. Nell was attending with her sister Mattie Brown and she said "I'm going to ask that handsome boy to bring me a glass of water." Everett would claim he brought her water for many years after that.

Everett worked for the Good Humor Ice Cream Company and grew up in Huntsville, Tennessee. In 1940 he worked as a chauffeur at a local cab driver in Scott County.

Everett C. McDonald, Sr., 83, of Valley Station, Ky., formerly of Huntsville, passed away Saturday, in Louisville, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents, M. L. (Mel) and Bertha Baird McDonald; two brothers: Boyd and Ernest McDonald; and four grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nell Brown McDonald of Valley Station, Ky.; four sons: Everett C. McDonald, Jr. and Howard E. McDonald, both of Maryville, Robert (Bob) H. McDonald of Nashville, and Miller (Buddy) W. McDonald of Oneida; seven daughters: Genevieve Servey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Julia Bertha Shepherd, Grace Dykes and Anna L. Hellmick, all of Station Valley, Ky., Betty Adkins of Wakeman, O., Barbara Ooten of Columbus, O., and Rosemary Sharp of Huntsville; 35 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers: Miller B. McDonald of LaFollette, M. L. McDonald of Florence, Ky., and Willard McDonald of Raleigh, N. C.; two sisters: Bessie Kenny of Washington state and Grace Dunlap of Washington, D. C.; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 26, at Walters Chapel in LaFollette, with Rev. Benny Lawson officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery. Active pallbearers were: Dennis Ooten, Ray Dykes, Quinton Sharp, Ralph Chambers, Donny McDonald, Johnny McDonald, Rusty McDonald, and Patrick Servey. Honorary pallbearers were: Terry Sharp, Roger Chambers, Tom Servey, Don Servey, Ronnie McDonald, and Joey Breu. Walters Funeral Home in LaFollette was in charge of arrangements.
