Andrew, son of Hubert and Genevieve McElmeel Kroeger, was born June 17, 1927 at Worington, Iowa. He was baptized as an infant at Delhi, Iowa and received his education from rural Iowa schools. On August of 1943, Andrew entered the United States Navy. He attained the rank of Motor Machinist Mate Second Class and served in both the South Pacific and Atlantic during World War II. While in the Navy, he was awarded three Bronze Stars and one Silver Star. In April of 1946, he was discharged from the service and returned to Iowa.
On November 20, 1946, Andrew was united in marriage with Emily Tiffany at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Independence, Iowa. After the service, Andrew returned to Independence where he worked for a John Deere Implement Dealer for a period of time. He then went to work at the John Deere Factory in Waterloo. After five months, he returned to the John Deere Implement dealer in Independence and continued working there until January of 1952, when he and Bill DeHaven purchased the John Deere Implement dealership in Sumner, Iowa. In 1978, andrew and his sons becam sole owners of the dealership in Sumner and he remained active in the business until the time of his death.
Andrew's death occurred this past Friday, June 10, 1994 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, following a heart attack. He was 68 years old and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic church in Sumner. He was a member of Thomas E Woods Post #223, American Legion in Sumner. He was a past member of the Sumner Volunteer Fire Dept., served on the Community memorial Hospital Board, and the Sumner Commercial Club. He also served on the Sumner City Council and was on the Advisory Board for the Iowa-Nebraska Farm Equipment Association.
In addition to his wife, Emily of Sumner, he is survived by two sone, Steven and Dean, both of Sumner; one daughter, Sue Kroger of Minneapolis, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Shadrak Kroeger, Heidi Jo Kroeger, Nicholas Kroeger, Tiffany Kroeger, and More Nutter; three brothers, Bernard Kroeger of Winthrop, Robert Kroeger of Independence, and Gerald of Hapers Ferry; and one sister, Mary Ellen, Mrs. Stephen O'Brien of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne; his parents; and one brother, John
