Cassie was born in Emanuel County, GA which is northwest of Savannah. Emanuel Co. was created 2 years before her birth, conceived from portions of Bulloch and Montgomery Co. Emanuel was made up of what is today Johnson, Jenkins, Toombs, Candler and Treutlen County. She was the eldest daughter of Georgia State Senator, Benjamin Sirmans and Martha Johnson, both from the families of early settlers and themselves pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia. She had, as far as I know 6 brothers and 3 sisters; Josiah, David, Lavinia, Ezekiel, Lucretia, Benjamin, Martha, Levi and Lyman.

Cassie married John Smith of Homerville, the son of Revolutionary Soldier William Smith. It is widely accepted that they were married in 1828, when she was 13 or 14 years old and John was 25 or 26 years old. Their oldest child Martha was born in 1829, followed by; William S., Lavinia, Rachel A., John Woods, Sirmans S., Charlton Hinds, David Johnson (presumably named after Cassie's Uncle, Major Gen. David Johnson, Indian fighter), Nancy, Gen. John Morgan and Hershel B..

Cassie lived her entire adult life in the Mud Creek area of Clinch County, Ga, near Homerville. She died at the age of 75, on the1 4th of May 1890. She is buried at Arabia Church Cemetery which abuts the Arabia Bay Swamp in northern Clinch Co.
