----------
Zachary Taylor Coffey, aged 73 years, 8 months and 1 day, died Wednesday morning at 4 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Marshal Martin, at Wetsel, a few miles south of McKinney.
Deceased suffered a stroke of paralysis more than a year ago and had since been in a feeble condition.
Funeral services will be held at the Forest Grove Christian church Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. A. H. Snider, assisted by Rev. J. Ben Snider and Dr. E. B. Fincher. Burial will be made in the Fitzhugh cemetery at that place.
Zachary Taylor Coffey, was born in Kentucky, October 30, 1848. He came to Texas in 1855, and settled east of Allen with his father, the late Sales Coffey and stepmother. His mother died in Kentucky when the deceased was quite young.
When the war between the states was waged Mr. Coffey was too young to enlist and go to the front, but he remained at home and did a man's job in helping to raise food and care for those left at home. He held membership in the Christian church at Forest Grove. He was a lifelong democrat, but never held public office, but always took an active interest in supporting men and measures that meant the betterment and upbuilding of his county and state in a moral, civic and righteous way.
Deceased's wife, who was formerly Miss Mary Snider, died in 1898. She was a daughter of Jim Snider, early settler of the Forest Grove community, who died many years ago.
Mr. Coffey was the father of twelve children, eight of whom are living--seven daughters and one son, as follows: Mrs. W. A. Dungan, McKinney; Mrs. Homer Wetsel, Bellvue, Texas; Mrs. C. C. Martin, Forest Grove; Mrs. G. M. Martin, Wetsel; Mrs. M. F. Orr, McKinney; Mrs. Gano Wilson, Murphy and Jesse Coffey, McKinney.
He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: W. S. (Mint) Coffey, Lone Grove, Okla., S. P. (Sterling) Coffey, McKinney; former sheriff W. S. Coffey, McKinney; Mrs. Joe Liggett, Bellvue, Texas; Mrs. Margaret Kerby, McKinney; and Mrs. George Kerby, McKinney. Deceased is also survived by sixteen grandchildren.
Deceased, who lived practically all his life in the Forest Grove community, was engaged in farming until a few years ago.
