Mr. Barnett was born in Buffalo and lived in Leon County since 1987. He was raised and graduated from high school in Oakwood and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a combat engineer, receiving several medals. He lived in Houston and worked for the Shell Oil Company in Deer Park upon his release from the Army. He retired from Shell in 1986 after 34 years as a dock foreman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Barnett.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Dianne K. Barnett of Houston and Sharon and Boyd P. Sifford of West Columbia; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marie Monkress and Dorothy and Mac Collier, all of Dallas; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
