R. May Wainwright Hockersmith
R. May (Cheek) Wainwright Hockersmith, 97, Franklin, died Sunday at Todd-Aikens Health Care, Franklin. She was a former resident of Shelbyville and Rushville.
Born on June 3, 1900, in Greensburg, she was the daughter of Robert J. and Evaline (Lockridge) Cheek. On Oct. 22, 1919, she married Byron C. Wainwright, who died Aug. 1, 1966. On Nov. 1, 1968, she married Ota Hockersmith, who died April 30, 1987.
Mrs. Hockersmith was a homemaker. She had been employed at the Finance Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison for 12 years before retiring in 1965.
She was a 1918 graduate of Rushville High School.
She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Rushville.
Survivors include two daughters, Thelma Tsismanakis, Franklin, and Winifred Fritsch, Alamogordo, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Private family graveside services will be at East Hill Cemetery, Rushville. There will be no calling.
Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home, Franklin, is handling arrangements.
